This takes place by way of the following steps: - the packaging-sleeve group (2) is supplied, - a web material (5) is opened out in a basic position, - thepackaging-sleeve group (2) is conveyed, in a conveying direction perpendicular to thelongitudinal extent of the packaging-sleeve group (2), through the opened-out webmaterial (5), wherein the web material (5) is pre-stressed, - the packaging-sleeve group(2) passes through a sealing unit (18) arranged downstream of the web material (5) in thebasic position, as seen in the conveying direction, - the web material (5) is sealed bymeans of the sealing unit (18), and - the sealed web material (5) is severed in a sealedregion (24).
