Can we live away from our real life? Is there a world where we can do anything we would like to? The movie Ready Player One, directed by Steven Spielberg, shows a world where these things can happen.

For those of you who haven’t heard of it, the Apple watch is the latest invention from the creators of the iPhone and Apple Mac. Its sales began in April, 2021. As the name suggests, it is designed to tell us the time. However, an Apple watch is never just a watch. In fact, this watch is multifunctional (多功能的). It not only shows us the time, but also acts as a fitness monitor and a messaging device (装置) that can be connected with an iPhone.
Do you think it’s a great invention? Don’t you think the technology have gone too far? Though the Apple watch is cool in appearance, is it a good thing to be able to receive messages through a watch, or is this another way of letting technology destroy our social life?
Just imagine: A group of friends sitting at a table in a restaurant will ignore each other as everyone will be too busy reading a new message on their watches. Students will have a means of ‘carefully’ checking their messages during school, despite the fact that mobile phones aren’t allowed in class... Although smartwatches may make communicating through technology easier, it seems that it could actually influence face-to-face communication.
I do have to agree, however, the watch has some interesting and helpful functions. For example, it can be used to create and record sporting activities. This could be of special interest to sports fans. While there are clearly both good and bad things when it comes to Applet latest invention, I personally like my single-purpose watch that simply tells me the time! What about you? Would you be interested in having a smartwatch?

C. The functions. D. The time its sales began.

C. Be bored with. D. Pay no attention to.
53. What does the writer want to tell us by using the examples in the fourth paragraph? A. People are too busy with their work. B. People like the Apple watch very much. C. Students can behave better with this watch.
D. Smartwatches influence face-to-face communication. 54. What is the writer’s opinion?
A. The Apple watch has more advantages. B. He would rather not have an Apple watch. C. All the people should have an Apple watch.
D. The Apple watch can save people’s money and time.

We all know that good health is very important for us. Then, how can you keep healthy?
第 7 页
Do you often do exercise? Even if the answer is yes, it’s not enough.
According to a new research done by an American scientist called Peter Katzmarzyk, people who want to live longer and healthier lives should not only exercise more, but also sit less.
Mr. Katzmarzyk is a scientist at the University of Louisiana. He has led a team to study how sitting all day influences the length of life. He said, t6We sit while we’re eating. We sit in the car. We sit while we are watching TV. And many of us sit for many hours at work. On average, Americans sit between four and five hours a day.〞 Mr. Katzmarzyk added, “Even though you do exercise for half an hour every day, that doesn’t mean you can sit for the rest of your waking hours.〞
The research shows that if one sits less than three hours a day, he might live longer by two years. Some companies have already realized the importance of sitting less. Change has already come to their offices, especially in the design (设计) of desks. A “standing desk〞 lets people stand when they work.
Another new design is called the “treadmill desk〞. A treadmill is an exercise machine that has a moving surface that people can walk or run on while remaining in the same place. Even some US schools are beginning to provide their students with desks that are bicycle parts to keep children moving in class.
55. What is the research done by Peter Katzmarzyk for? A. How people can live a happier life B. How we can live longer and healthier. C. How long Americans sit every day. D. How much exercise Americans do.
56. How long do most Americans sit a day? A. 2-3 hours. B. 3-4 hours. C. 4-5 hours. D. 5-6 hours.
57. The “standing desk〞 is designed to __________. A. cut down on people’s sitting time B. punish those who don’t work hard C. make desks more comfortable D. make people focus on work
58. What’s the main idea of this passage? A. Sitting less can help us live longer.
